So, on June 15, 2014…
And then on June 18, 2014…
A top Iranian official said Wednesday that Tehran could consider working with the United States over the crisis in Iraq if talks on its nuclear programme are successful.
Asked about possible cooperation in Iraq, President Hassan Rouhani’s chief of staff Mohammad Nahavandian told reporters in Oslo that the nuclear talks were a “test for confidence building”.
“If that comes to a final resolution, then there might be opportunities for other issues to be discussed.”
I would like to be wrong. But, given the Obama administration’s excellent track record on foreign policy (since sarcasm on the Internet is difficult to detect, I will point out now that I was being sarcastic there), I have no faith whatsoever that we won’t find a way to eliminate some of the things Obama didn’t like the latest Iran sanctions from the Senate using this “golden opportunity.” No real military action from us, “peace” with Iran, and al Qaeda can be routed again, this time while America sits on the sidelines and shouts “Huzzah!”
Someone needs to sit the president down and explain to him why things don’t work out when the utopia in his head crashes and burns in real life. Of course, no one in his inner circle has the common sense, much less the anatomical necessities, to do such a thing.
Or, perhaps Alfred was right. Maybe some men just want to watch the world burn.
