Still Don’t Know What I Wanna Be When I Grow Up

A rough day in the classroom, the stress of too many obligations, and the realization that teaching may or may not be a forever gig for me are keeping me up tonight.

Y’all didn’t subscribe to hear me whine and moan, so instead, let me just say that it is irresponsible for us to ask high schoolers (and younger!) what they want to be when they grow up. I will hit 31 years old this coming June and I am no closer to figuring that out than I was in college.

I never really imagined teaching is where I’d end up. But I also don’t think that it’s as forever as I thought it might be. I did go searching for jobs, to the point where I interviewed (only a few people know the specifics) but it was certainly not a teaching job.

I have never liked thinking about the future. It scares the hell out of me. And when you combine that with the realization that you’re hair is starting to fall out and you don’t see a long-term career where you currently are? That’s nerve-wracking.

Say a prayer, if you can. Maybe the Powers That Be will take the wheel.
